Terraplane and the Hudson Horns

Big Band Blues

Terraplane and the Hudson Horns is a blues and jazz band based in Hobart Tasmania. The band, in various incarnations, has been together since around 1990. We play both covers and original music. Our style is eclectic, ranging from the blues of Paul Butterfield and Taj Mahal to more modern blues/jazz such as Carlos Del Junco; from the undefinable such as Tom Waits to swing and jazz such as Les McCann and Mose Alison – and even a little bit of funk.

When the Hudson Horns joined Terraplane they added a new dimension to what was a fairly traditional blues band. Our former drummer John Barnes, a talented arranger, writes some very exciting horn arrangements for us. Together with the Hudson Horns the sound is bigger, funkier and swingier (I know that’s not a word). And it allows us to explore new areas of blues and jazz. It’s a sound that will really rock any venue.

We have played at events such as The Southern Blues Music Festival, Hot August Jazz, The Longford Blues Festival, The Hard Rock Hotel (Bali) and many of the pubs and venues around Hobart.
